WHITE FLESH DRAGON FRUIT
History of Vietnamese Dragon Fruit
- The White dragon fruit sp. (Hylocereus andatus)
with white flesh and pink peel was firstly introduced
into Binh Thuan province centuries ago through
catholic priests from South America. This plant belongs to the Cactus family, prefers sandy soil, and
sunshine.
Taste of White-flesh Dragon Fruit
- Mildly sweet, not overly sweet, with a delicate aroma.
Planting
- Dragon fruit has a long photosynthesis cycle. The longer the daylight hours, the better for flowering. Under these conditions, dragon fruit flowers from April to September (the favorable season), but the peak flowering period is from May to July when the days are longer than the nights. From October to February, the days are shorter, so farmers often use artificial lighting technology to illuminate the flowers.
